Loei is in a remote northeastern area of Thailand; it’s mountainous; it’s one of the most beautiful and unspoiled places in Thailand. Our Welcome House was the first non-government project to be started here. An excellent relationship has been enjoyed with the local government and hospital since the project’s inception. The referral system developed now links government offices, the hospital social workers and our staff to maximize our effectiveness.
AIDS education programs were provided for over 20,000 people last year, especially to villagers, students and targeted labor groups. Multimedia was used, with an emphasis on group participation. More than 350 people received counseling, either as individuals or as groups. Two small handicraft groups were formed to teach skills aimed at generating increased income for people with AIDS and their families. 52 people with AIDS were directly assisted with the management of their cases by our social worker.
Funding is received from MISSIO Germany and the Thai Government.
