Did you know that Asia is home to twice as many poor as the rest of the developing world combined? Did you know that Asia is the world's most populous and least Christian region, Thailand is a country with dynamic mission teams living and working in a wide variety of settings: from the slums of Bangkok to the rural rice paddies of Northeast Thailand, to the mountainous regions of Northern Thailand. Our work encompasses Burmese refugees, people with HIV/AIDS, the mentally and physically handicapped, slum dwellers, women's rights and empowerment, refugees and immigrant workers in Thailand, as well as Thai workers working abroad. Multiple opportunities for teaching ministries also abound: in areas related to health, literacy, worker's rights, and the English language. While there has been little emphasis, to date, on pastoral ministry, this is another area where missioners have an opportunity to "make a difference." We are working with the most marginalized and vulnerable populations in Thailand: men, women and children. As we celebrate the beginning of our 19th year of mission in Thailand, we Maryknoll missioners bring both seasoned experience and fresh enthusiasm to our ministries. As ordained and professed, we are priests, sisters and brothers. As lay people, we are single, married and married with children. Our mission reality in Thailand is wide and varied, with apostolic possibilities limited only by one's imagination and energy. If you're truly interested in overseas mission, no area of the world fits the bill better than challenging, dynamic Asia. Take a chance and seriously consider joining Maryknoll in Thailand. We hope you can see a place for yourself in a part of the world that is exploding not only in population, but in both need and vitality as well.
